Hi,
Sorry about the trouble you experienced here -- there was indeed an issue affecting availability of the server hosting your database, but this should've been resolved since approximately 4:45PM UTC.
Generally speaking I'd highly recommend using a dedicated SQL Server database for production use - for instance by using Amazon RDS, which is very cost effective (starting at $15/month) and integrates well with AppHarbor apps (AppHarbor offers dedicated SQL server instances as well, but starts at a higher price point and new plans are coming up soon if you're interested).
Performance and availability can and will at times be variable with the shared SQL server databases, and we don't recommend using it for production purposes for the same reason. It sounds like the issue today affected your business a lot so I'd highly recommend considering other options for your database hosting, and I'll be happy to help figure out an alternative solution if you'd like.
That being said, if the issue does crop up again you're more than welcome to reach out!
Best,
Rune
