asmx files? wse2? visual studio 2003?

Hi,

I have a VS2003 based web service, using WSE2 via ASMX files.

When I upload it (the wwwroot directory which includes a sln file) to appharbor I get a build error, but no output.

I guess I am doing it wrong and/or using tech that is not compatible.

Any tips?

Thanks in advance,
Chris

  1. A good bet would likely be to try to resolve the build error. If this is a Web Site Project, you can also try pushing without the solution file. This will cause AppHarbor to not build you code and simply deploy it all.

Let us know if there's anything else we can do to help.

  2. Hi Michael,

Thanks for the information - that was what I had initially, but then got permission errors accessing the site - so I had assumed it was due to missing the solution file... Have removed it, now successfully builds, yay!

The permission errors were due to accessing the wrong url.

When I try the correct one, I get this error:

    Could not load type 'WebService1.Global'.

    Line 1: <%@ Application Codebehind="Global.asax.cs" Inherits="WebService1.Global" %>

Which perhaps points more to my lack of .Net-fu - but it works for me locally :(

    Thanks,
    Chris

  3. There are some suggestions here -- in particular, are you pushing the application dll? Also .NET 1.1 is not installed on AppHarbor web servers, so you should ensure that the app runs under .NET 2.0.

Let us know if you hit any snags.

  4. Hi,

Thanks - the link referred to ensuring the app DLL was built - was assuming that was happening in the push to appharbor. Now I am pushing the DLL and get a different error:

    The resource cannot be found.
Description: HTTP 404. The resource you are looking for (or one of its dependencies) could have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. Please review the following URL and make sure that it is spe lled correctly.

But the app is using WSE2, which does say it requres .Net 1.1 - so I guess it wont work anyway...

    Thanks,
    Chris
