example.com Canonical
And what should I put in my DNS?
Right now the A record is
example.com IP_from_apphb
www.example.com
IP_from_apphb
Naive question: How to redirect www.example.com to example.com

Take a look at www.cleartax.in and then at cleartax.in
I did select make canonical and the correct redirection isn't happening. Do I need to do something at the CNAME level?

It seems that you have not registered the www.cleartax.in hostname with AppHarbor.
Let us know if that doesn't resolve your issue.
