<customErrors mode="Off"/> not respected

  1. Hi,

    I'm guessing you're using MVC 3 which sets the HandleErrorAttribute as a global filter by default global.asax. You should get your errors as expected if you simply remove this section:

        public static void RegisterGlobalFilters(GlobalFilterCollection filters)
        {
            filters.Add(new HandleErrorAttribute());
        }

    If this doesn't resolve the issue you can add our support account as a collaborator on the application and I'll take a look at it.

    Best regards,
    Rune

  4. Just a WebForms application. I see the error screen you would normally see when you have customErrors='RemoteOnly'. I've added you as a contributor.

    Thanks

  5. I'm pretty sure this has to do with deployment='retail' specified in machine.config..

    I think it should be left up to the app to run w/ debug='true' and customErrors set to 'Off'

  6. Hi,

    I've figured what the issue is. The Web.Config referenced in TellBob isn't copied to the web servers becasuse it is set as an embedded resource. You'll need to set Web.Config as "Content" instead to allow it to be copied and deployed properly.

    I tried your app afterwards and ran into an issue with the "rewrite" section in the web.config. URL rewriting isn't currently supported. To solve this I'm adding a configuration setting very soon, so you can set an "canonical url" for your application. This will make sure that all request to one of your hostnames would get redirected to one hostname - in your case, all non-www. requests could be redirected to www. . This will then be handled by the load balancer rather than by each web server, which is faster and more efficient.

    For now you can avoid the issue by simply removing the section of the configuration web.config.

    I didn't push my changes to your repository as I didn't want to interfere with your work. If you'd like me to do that or have other questions please feel free to write again.

    Thanks,
    Rune

  9. Hi,

    Just wanted to let you know that we've implemented canonical hostnames to handle redirects now. Read more about it here: http://support.appharbor.com/kb/tips-and-tricks/canonical-hostname

    Best,

  12. Thanks this is this great, keep up the fast work!

    But this works just as well with urlrewrite... any particular reason to use
    this mechanism instead?

  13. We prefer to handle this before requests hit IIS, and we also think the IIS rewrite module is kind of hard to configure.
